CHAMBERLAIN BLACK

BLACKLETTER RESURECTION TYPEFACE

Balancing playfulness and rhythm with history and heritage, Chamberlain Black is an approachable blackletter typeface that functions best at large scale.

Inspired by the precision and functionality of letterpress, Chamberlain Black draws on forms from a machine-cut wood-type specimen from 1888. Referencing its Old English and German roots, it draws on the heritage of blackletter with a hint of calligraphic playfulness. Combining organic and rhythmic letterforms, Chamberlain Black offers a sprightly approach while remaining true to its blackletter bones. Designed for decorative functionality, it is intended to be used for display and functions best at large scale.

CHAMBERLAIN BLACK IN USE

After Designing this typeface in a digital resurrection of typography class, I collaborated with a peer and her typeface to form a case study. We then organized and held a type exhibit together as a class. I was on the exhibition team, where we curated and arranged the space, as well as handled all print promotion collateral.
